The Children’s AIDS Fund (CAF) has been involved in both domestic and global programs since the late 1980s. CAF’s global strategy is to build the capacity of in-country grassroots organizations to meet the needs of their communities. CAF builds partnerships by identifying groups already involved in effective activities and initiatives consistent with CAF’s program priorities. Through these partnerships, CAF provides technical assistance, resources, networking and opportunities all with the goal of building in-country partner capacity for long-term sustainable programs.
In the past four years, CAF has been helping implement the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) as a subcontractor in treatment and care programs and as a grantee in prevention programs.
To provide effective hands-on management for these critical and demanding program, CAF has opened offices and obtained non-governmental organization (NGO) status in Uganda and Zambia. CAF in-country staff continue to partner with local organizations to implement treatment, care and prevention programs under PEPFAR.
Currently CAF’s global partnerships are in Africa with all programs operating under the banner “Preserving the African Family in the Face of HIV/AIDS” and focus on three main areas.

The HIV/AIDS pandemic provide incredible challenges but equally amazing rewards as lives are saved through treatment, livelihoods are improved through care and income generating patient programs, orphans are able to attend school and learn vocational skills that will sustain the long-term, and through effective prevention programs a new generation of youth have the knowledge and skills to remain HIV free.
HIV/AIDS Care & Treatment
In three of four countries in Africa (South Africa, Uganda and Zambia), CAF’s treatment and care programs are part of the AIDSRelief Consortium under PEPFAR. AIDSRelief supports the delivery of HIV care and treatment to poor and underserved populations in nine countries.

AIDSRelief is a five-member consortium, with Catholic Relief Services being the prime grantee under PEPFAR.
